The History of Medicare

President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare into law in 1965 during a time when many Americans over 65 were finding it virtually impossible to get private health insurance coverage.

The Medicare program, providing hospital and medical insurance for Americans age 65 or older, was signed into law as an amendment to the Social Security Act of 1935. Some 19 million people enrolled in Medicare when it went into effect in 1966.  Medicare has made access to health care a universal right for Americans once they reach age 65. This has helped improve the health and longevity of many Americans since.

In 2015, Medicare celebrated 50 years of making healthcare available to its beneficiaries.  The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services created this video to share the impact the programs have on these beneficiaries’ lives.

Currently, 61 million beneficiaries—some 15 percent of the U.S. population—are enrolled in the Medicare program.  Enrollment is expected to rise to 79 million by 2030.*

How NOT to Shop For Medicare.

Choosing your Medicare coverage is not a “one-size-fits-all” decision. What works for one person may be totally different than what would work for you. Rather than going with the first plan you hear about from your friend or coworker, it’s important to evaluate all of your options and find the best fit for your needs. We can help!

Many, many thanks to all of you for all your help in untangling the mess of Medicare! Your clear and concise explanations over the phone were absolutely wonderful! I am so glad that I found my Medicare Options agent, Bob K.! He knows exactly what plan is the best for you & if you qualify for extra help because of your income. I have met with other agents to discuss Medicare Advantage Plans & they were ok, but Bob is very knowledgeable on all the plans! I trust him completely.
